Mike Penfold is a highly respected conservationist with a lifelong dedication to preserving and protecting the natural environment. Throughout his career, he has held a variety of key positions in public land administration and environmental policy, including National Forest Supervisor in Virginia, White House Council on Environmental Quality in Washington D.C., BLM State Director for Montana, North and South Dakota, and Alaska, and National BLM Assistant Director Land and Renewable Resources in Washington D.C.

Penfold’s commitment to conservation has earned him numerous awards and commendations for his outstanding career accomplishments. These include the Meritorious Award for sustained superiority accomplishment in quality and efficiency in public service, the Secretary of the Interior Distinguished Service commendation for his ability to work with diverse groups in Montana, and the Secretary of the Interior Meritorious Service commendation for his leadership as State Director of Alaska.

Penfold’s commitment to conservation extends beyond his professional work, as he is an avid hunter, fly fisherman, biker, camper, skier, and backpacker. He also enjoys doing historical research to deepen his understanding of the natural world. Penfold lives in Billings, Montana, with his family where he continues to promote sustainable practices and preserve the state’s natural beauty for future generations
